“We have received so much love and support from you amid our numerous crises, and now wanted to return the favour and express our friendship also through raising funds,” said Bishop István Bogárdi Szabó on Sunday, during the worship service of the Korean-speaking Reformed Congregation in Budapest. During the service, the Ministerial President of the Reformed Church in Hungary (RCH) handed over the 11,000 USD donation raised for the support of the survivors of the May boat tragedy, as well as of the bereaved families and orphaned children.

RCH Presiding Bishop Dr. István Szabó recently traveled South Korea to meet with partner churches and discuss the strong ecumenical ties that exist. During his trip, Bishop Szabó attended the synod meetings for the PCK and PROK partner churches and also gave a lecture on ecumenical relationships.

Rector Dr. Bölcskei was accompanied to South Korea, by Chae Hwa Jeong the Pastor of Korean Congregation of the RCH under the invitation of Rev. Dr. Sam-Whan Kim, Pastor of Myungsung Congregation of Presbyterian Church of Korea (PCK). Rev. Dr. Kim is the past PCK Moderator, and current chair of the GFFWC.

The latest step in the World Council of Churches’ (WCC) call for justice and peace came just outside Geneva, when church leaders from 34 countries, including representatives from both North and South Korea, gathered in Bossey to examine ways of promoting peace and reconciliation on the Korean Peninsula.

The Reformed Church in Hungary greatly values its relationships with partner churches around the world, especially the personal connections that have developed between individual congregations. With that in mind and in light of the increased tensions on the Korean peninsula, the RCH congregation from the Great Church in Debrecen has communicated a statement of support for all of those struggling with the present uncertainty between North and South Korea.
