Every decade the International Mission Council and the World Council of Churches’ (WCC) Commission on World Mission and Evangelism (CWME) hold a joint conference, the Conference on World Mission and Evangelism. The conference was held this year, 8-13 March in Arusha, Tanzania with the theme, Moving in the Spirit: Called to Transforming Discipleship.

The Dialogue Continues

The Church Revision Committee recently met to discuss the continuation of the RCH's revision process. It has decided to team up with the Synod Mission Committee and developed a working plan for this cooperation, which includes some 20 consultations based upon the suggestions of the Revision Committee’s submission that the Synod accepted in November.

Zoltán Balog, minister of Human Resources, presented several awards on 11 November, the Day of Social Work. The heads of the RCH's Homeless Ministry and Refugee Ministry as well as the Mohács-Kölked congregation social home and its director were among the recipients.

Discussing the Hungarian Perspective on World Mission

Rev. Dr. László Gonda has been a member of the Commission on World Mission and Evangelism since 2006 and together with his fellow commissioners, helped develop the new mission statement of the World Council of Churches (WCC) entitled, Together Towards Life: Mission and Evangelism in Changing Landscapes.

Reflections on Mission

Rev. Keith Kraft, a United Church of Christ pastor from Mobridge, South Dakota (USA), alongside his wife Debbie served for a month this summer at a summer camp for Roma children at the Reformed Roma Center in Csonkapapi, Ukraine. The camp provides weeklong programs from June through July for nearly 400 youth from several surrounding communities. Below, Rev. Kraft has presented us with some reflections from his mission in Ukraine.

From South Dakota to Ukraine: UCC Pastor and His Wife Volunteering at Roma Camp

The camp provides weeklong programs from June through July for nearly 400 youth from several surrounding communities.

Redefining Mission

The Dutch Reformed Church in South Africa and the Reformed Church in Hungary signed a partnership agreement in 2011 to symbolize the churches' commitment to share and learn with one another as sister churches. Dr. Attie van Niekerk, founding member and managing director of the NOVA Institute as well as a theological professor at the University of Pretoria, recently represented the DRC in Budapest with a series of lectures on poverty and the redefinition of mission and held meetings with the RCH's Roma Ministry, Diaconia, Eco-Congregation as well as László Gonda, missiology professor.
