Diaspora

The Hungarian Reformed Church is the "mother" of many Hungarian Reformed churches and communities all over the world. Due to the massive migration of Hungarians at the end of the 19th century and in the 20th century, many congregations were formed outside Hungary, in Europe and around the world.

In the USA, some interesting historical events resulted in the establishment of two Hungarian Reformed churches in the 1920s: the Hungarian Reformed Church in America and the Calvin Synod of the United Church of Christ.

Reformed Hungarians living in Canada belong to one of three different churches: Presbyterian Church in Canada, United Church of Canada or Hungarian Reformed Church in America. These are joined by the Canadian Hungarian Reformed Ministers' and Elders' Union.

The Federation of Hungarian-Speaking Protestant Congregations in Western Europeprovides a framework for cooperation of mostly reformed communities in Western Europe, similarly to the Hungarian Reformed Pastoral Service in Western Europe.

The Hungarian Reformed Church in Australia has four presbyteries. The biggest one, the North Fitzroy Congregation in the Victoria District, has Melbourne as a center.

All Hungarian congregations in the diaspora strive to cooperate with each other within their own countries by organising regular meetings and conferences.
