The Scottish Mission in Budapest: A Spirit of Cooperation and Tolerance, Then and Now
2012. december 10., tags: antisemitism, st columba, scottish mission, church of scotlandAaron Stevens, pastor at St. Columba’s Presbyterian Church in Budapest, a congregation historically linked with the RCH, shared his thoughts on Jane Haining and her legacy of tolerance. The article was published last summer in the newspaper of the World Mission Council of the Church of Scotland. Haining was a missionary from the Church of Scotland who dedicated her life to the service of Jewish and Christian alike. She was taken to and later executed in Auschwitz during World War II.
Candlelight Demonstration Against Racism
2012. december 06., tags: antisemitismOn Friday evening a protest demonstration was held in Debrecen, where representatives of historical churches, the local government, political parties and civil organisations gathered together to let their voices be heard against racism and hatred. At the event a speech was delivered by the Bishop of the Transtibiscan Reformed Church District, Gusztáv Bölcskei.
Géza Soos, the Hungarian Wallenberg
2012. december 04., tags: antisemitismGéza Soos, a strong member of Hungarian resistance during the second World War and Head of the Soli Deo Gloria youth movement was born 100 years ago. A conference was held on 27 November in his memory at the Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Hungary, where his rather eventful life was recalled through lectures and devotionals. 2013 is also known as the Wallenberg year in Hungary, which gives the Reformed Church a reason to examine the lives of these two significant individuals together, in the framework of their shared mission saving many lives during the second World War.
