Every second year, young people gather from around the Carpathian Basin and from abroad, to come together in community and to share and discuss the event’ theme. In addition to having fun and enjoying cultural activities, committed Christians and seekers are able to meet and share their thoughts about the world, common or differing values and God. The event is organized and run by close to 800 volunteers. Two years ago, more than 3500 young people between the ages of 14 and 35 gathered together for the festival. The upcoming 7th Starpoint Youth Festival will be held in Tata, Hungary on 21st-25th July 2015.
Theme
The main theme is going to be Trust: what is trust? What does it mean in relationships and in the everyday life? Because it is important who and what we trust in. And it brings up the question: why is it hard to trust and how can we do so? Thinking about the miracle of having trust despite all the hardships that we might face, the story of the Prophet Daniel can help us understand it:"...our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. But if not, be it known unto thee, O King, that we will not serve thy gods..." (Daniel 3:17-18)
Together with youth of partner churches
As always, the Reformed Church in Hungary invited the youth of the partner churches around the world. In 2013, when the festival was held in Mezőtúr, the RCH had the opportunity to welcome 26 participants from the USA, Canada, South Korea, Taiwan, Czech Republic, Lithuania, Germany and England. As one of the highlights of the international programs the Lord Church congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Korea presented a unique dance performance at the festival and it is anticipated that they will repeat their success with their performance this year again.
Program
The participants will be able to choose from a wide variety of interesting programmes: lectures, devotions, bigger and smaller group activities and of course conversations with the well-known or soon-to-be well-known fellows. Each day will begin with a main lecture from the speaker of the day, and later the youth have a chance to discuss the message of it in small groups led by trained small group leaders. But the participants’ cultural entertainment is also guaranteed by different set of daily programmes: among other things, famous Hungarian bands will perform on the stage of the festival and you can participate in dance houses, joint singing and thought-provoking lectures as well. The specialty of Starpoint is that, it is rare in the world of festivals that you can conduct heart-to-heart conversations and you can get brotherly acquainted with others. This is because the festival is organized by youth for youth: by this the programmes are especially for young people, and it will certainly make them enjoy their stay in Tata. The program guide is already available online!
