A Visual History of the Hungarian City of Reformation
2017. január 06., péntekDebrecen Reformed Theological University, in anticipation of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation in 2017 and Debrecen’s role as a City of the Reformation, has produced a video highlighting the connections between the city and the Reformation.
Debrecen is traditionally called the “Hungarian Geneva” because of its tight connections with the Swiss Reformation. The film created by Debrecen Reformed Theological University presents the connections between the city and the Reformation from the 16th century up until the present day. Containing feature film elements, the film recalls the most important events of Debrecen church life of national and international significance such as the legend of the spreading of the Swiss Reformation in the area, the foundation of the Reformed College, hospital, and printing press, as well as the dethronement of the Habsburg dynasty and the Pope’s visit.
In addition, the film, which is available in Hungarian, German, and English, is meant to be an introduction to the international series of programs starting in Geneva, calling at Debrecen, and finally arriving at Wittenberg in for the 500th anniversary of the Reformation.
