Former Bishop of Transylvanian Church District passes away
2018. november 14., szerdaRev. Géza Pap, former Bishop of the Transylvanian Reformed Church District, suddenly passed away on 13 November 2018.
Born in 1954 in Cluj (Kolozsvár), Bishop Géza Pap graduated from the Protestant Theological Institute in Cluj in 1978. Just one year later, he began serving as Assistant Pastor in Bucharest, Romania, and in 1981, he served in Magyarkiskapus. In December 1988, Bishop Pap became Senior Pastor at the Reformed Congregation in Kolozsvár-Felsőváros.
From 2000-2012, Rev. Géza Pap served as the 45th Bishop of the Transylvanian Reformed Church District. Afterwards, he became the acting president of the Synod of the Reformed Church in Romania.
At the inauguration of his successor, current Bishop of the Transylvanian Reformed Church District, Béla Kató, he gave him three pieces of advice in his address: He advised him not to get caught up in the stress; he encouraged him to take five minutes to, simply, be still and listen to God. Second, he reminded Bishop Kató that the church does not belong to the Bishop, it belongs to God. And finally, Bishop Pap said to be free of debt to others, to have a clear mind and a clear heart when making important decisions.
Bishop Géza Pap’s service has touched many lives, and the Church mourns his passing.
